People always come across cockroach feces but fail to recognize them. When the population of cockroaches increases, their feces are a challenge when cleaning. Their droppings are small with black or brown colouring and cylindrically shaped pellets. Cockroach size is the determining factor on the size of the feces and will range from tiny pecks to pellets which are considerably large that are scattered in clusters all over. The most probable place to find cockroach feces is around water and food source in a room. Bathrooms and kitchen are the likely hideouts where their feces will be littered around. Places which rarely get cleaned such as beneath the sink, interior surface of cabinets and refrigerators are usually the areas with the largest amount of feces. Here, they will multiply in a very short time and make it hard to be spotted.
Regardless of the stains found on the walls and around dark corners, the aforementioned places are where and how to identify cockroach feces. The dark residues are sputum material of the cockroach. Their hideouts will spot a lot of feces and reliable studies have shown that the adult roach feces are a source of food for newly hatched German cockroach nymph. They obtain essential nutrients from the droppings until when they are strong and able to look for their own food source. By use of this adaptive mechanism, cockroaches will survive at an early stage and avoid being destroyed easily as they look for food. Sometimes the just hatched nymphs will ingest roach bait from the feces of an adult cockroach which had fed on the bait.
Cockroach feces are also identified by their distinctive odour. They produce pheromones from body glands that smell bad especially in the event of a heavy infestation. The odour from the cockroach feces is the most difficult phase of infestation to eradicate. A significant amount of droppings is a sight that raises alarm as it will indicate harmful bacteria and bad smell is a disaster waiting to happen. The cockroach feces have certain protein elements which cause allergic reactions that lead to asthma and other complications in human beings. Cockroach bites mainly to pets and children is another a sign of infestation. Visible cockroach feces can be sprayed and wiped out using a disinfectant or a vacuum cleaner for the feces dumped in cracks or crevices by the cockroaches
